aren't these the Guys from Starwars? You know these Fly-guys from the Second movie in Timeline ? BTW. Good job nids !:D
Probably not, since Tau codex came out year before the movie. And if you google pictures of both Vespids and Genosians you'll notice only things comon with them are wings and they carry a gun.
Am I the only one who wanted to field these guys regardless of their equipment and stats?
Does that mean I'm that one guy at the office who won't be mowed down by the raging insane Insectoid coworker? :P
only If you help em killing everybody else :D
I... actually quite like Vespid.
Sure, they don't tend to do much, but their manoeuvrability, and slight ability in combat is useful.
Especially when people underestimate them, and you stick a couple of marker lights on their target.
Well, since their weapons didn't got nerfed like the broadside' railguns, they still got a nice S5 ap3 shot each.
And yes, add markerlights to the fun.
Unless you're the marine player on the other side of the board, and you spent your 1st turn laughting your a** out of someone playing with vespids....... then you can QQ for geting your marine squads wiped out to S5, Ap3, no cover, Bs5, shots :p (too bad my brother doesn't paint his vespids..... i really enjoy using them then he lets me borrow his army, that and pathfinders, and crisis, and....... still didn't used the riptide, now that i think of it.........)
As a Tau player from when they first came out. WHile i do have Vespid models. I have not used them in a very long time.
Fast attack choice
Vespids18 pts each but compared with better choices.
1/ Pathfinders with marker lights and railguns
2/ Drone Squadron lots of marker lights. Attached Shas'o with drone controller. All marker lights can move and hit on 2+. Then move in assault pahase.
3/ Razorshark fighter (so much better then the rubbish bomber with Str 5 AP5 large blast) Where the fighter has a Str 8 AP4 Rng 30 large blast.
So uless you use multi attachments, Vespids not going to be used.
As a Necron player I know how this goes, exept the necron version is Destroyer, and personally I take them every time I know I'm facing armies with 3+ save, because lets face it, 2 shots stregth 5 ap3 is nothing to sneer at and I afectionally refer to them as marine slayers, mean while most necron players around here preferred the more up close aproach with wraiths. Something I have a distaste due CC making the rest of necron army useless to shoot at the enemy unit(s) that are in the fight.
And honestly It just is more fun to see the marine player lose a unit per monlith per turn and the odd survivor mopped up by the destroyers is a sight to behold.
That is great for you but a Vespid weapon is Assault 1 and only 18 inch range. When the other weapons from say rail rifles in the pathfinders fast attack unit are Str 6 AP1 Rapid fire 30 inch range.
I do like Vespids but their are better fast attack choices. So unles you go multi Force Org's. I cannot see me taking them, even though I have a full squad painted.
Something I thought about after posting my comment, is that with Unbound you could make an entire army of Vespid.
throw in a couple of Missile XV8s, and you could potentially take on anything :)
The only thing I never liked about vespid is one shot ea, and only 5+ armour. everything else about them is decent, and the models are pretty good looking, even if they are metal.
+1 they are good and with the +1 cover ruins, they have a use. But I just have better choices for fast attack. So unless you go with more than 1 Force Org, that will stay on my shelf. Also i will never use the Tau bomber, while it's a Str 5 AP5, you have to roll a D6 and on a 1 you can not get any more bombs. The fighter gives a lot more options. Though I do have a Barracuda which is a lot better, with it's Str 8 AP3 large blast and 60 inch range. All i have to worry about is the gets hot rule, but that does not stop me useing the weapon again.
No real need to do multi-FOC with the Unleashed/Unbound ruleset. If you're crazy like me and good near full Vespi, I highly doupt your opponent would really moan. :P
I personally believe that the Barracuda should have been in the Tau Codex instead of the Bomber and Fighter. From what I've read about its rules its much more versatile, and the model is so much more appealing from a design perspective.
Narric you're right it's a great model a lot better the the plastic GW ones. But the plastic ones have armour 11 front. But if both are side by side, the Barracuda looks better armoured by its only front armour 10. But if you can get two marker light hits to remove cover saves and use the blast from the Ion cannon, its instant death to space marines. I have used that many a time to bring death from above.
